When I first saw the Great Blue Heron wading the shores of the creek near our house, I wondered what aspect of this bird earned it its name. But when it took flight and I saw those amazing dark blue primary feathers of that imposing wingspan, I immediately understood. In this picture, I attempt to capture the essence of that moment.
